My Artis Brush Collection | Artis Linear 1, Oval 3 and Oval 6 Elite Mirror Finish Brushes
Did you know that your standard, conventional makeup brush was not actually configured for self-application? In fact, the typical makeup brush we use nowadays was never even meant to apply makeup! It’s true. Conventional makeup brushes are simply watercolor Art brushes that over the years have been re-labeled and re-introduced as makeup tools. With this piece of factual information and years of research, innovative brand Artis set out on a quest to create a design of what the ideal makeup brush should be. The result is a sleek design with practical ergonomics and efficiencies. The Artis Brush is simple, easy to use and outperforms conventional brushes. And that’s another fact! I have previously talked about the Artis artistry, craftsmanship, why I initially dismissed their brushes and what finally prompted me to give in to the hype (and so glad I did!) in a previous blog post here. And since these brushes are too good not to share, allow me to introduce you to the Artis brushes I currently have in my makeup collection.
But before I do so, let me quickly tell you a few more facts about these Artis brushes, facts which will hopefully help you understand why they’re worth the hype.
Made from synthetic fibers with microscopically tapered ends, each Artis brush contains 3-10 times as many fibers as conventional brushes. This means densely packed bristles that help blend and buff makeup into natural-looking, air-brushed results regardless of formula (liquid, cream, or powder). The oval shape of the brush head ensures that all fibers are in direct contact with the skin further enhancing the smooth, flawless application. No streaks and no uneven patches! In addition, because of the unique design, less product is needed and thus wasted into the brush. All Artis brushes are man-made, cruelty-free, and incredibly soft, thus making them the perfect tools for even the most sensitive complexions. The handle is light, slick and slightly flexible to allow the brush to conform to your facial curves. The rubbery grips are comfortable to hold and give you more control over the application process. These brushes don’t shed (I repeat, they DO NOT SHED) and are designed to stand the test of time.
This is the brush that started my love affair with oval brushes and Artis in particular. It is in my opinion THE most versatile from their entire line. The Oval 6 works well with any type of formula (liquid, cream, powder) and any type of product (primer, foundation, concealer, highlighter, bronzer and blush). This brush truly does it all! It works to apply foundation all over the face, blends concealer under the eyes and along the sides of the nose, fits perfectly onto the hallows of the cheeks to seamlessly contour, and can be used to add a pop of glow to the top of the cheekbones. This brush completely changed the game for me! If you only try one oval brush, then you have to go for the Artis Oval 6!
The Artis Oval 3 is a shader, blending, concealer and highlighter brush in one slick, ergonomic design. If you’re looking for a multi-use eyeshadow brush, this is it! It can literally be used for every step of the eyeshadow process: sweeping shadow all over the lid, packing color onto the lid, blending into crease and highlighting the inner corner and brow bone. I have also used this brush to blend concealer under the eyes and accentuate the cheekbones with highlighter. This brush can also assist with applying foundation all over the face, but I find that it takes a little longer that my Oval 6 due to its smaller size. I have however used my Oval 3 to conceal spots as it does an excellent job on smaller areas.
Sadly for me, pollen from these beautiful lilies I used in the photos stained my Artis Oval 3 and I haven’t been able to get the yellow stains out. I never thought flowers can be occupational hazards, but I do now. So keep your Artis brushes away from pollen!
One of the points of discontentment when it comes to my looks, has been my eyebrows. They stopped growing new hairs a few years ago, in fact, I can’t even remember the last time I needed to properly groom them. They don’t have an even shape and the hairs left are sparse. Ample time and meticulous work is required to fill them in and ensure they look presentable. It’s been such a love hate relationship with my eyebrows, that when I first learned about the Artis Linear 1, I finally thought I had found a solution. The Artis Linear 1 has a very narrow row of fibers that helps concentrate product application in a precise line. This gives me more control over defining and filling in my eyebrows, while ensuring a more even look of the brows. The Linear 1 brush is also very helpful to line the upper and lower lash line enhancing the eyes, as well as to line the contour of the lips and define the crease. In short, another game changer for me!
Artis brushes are available online on their website here and at high-end retailers such as Space NK, Anthropologie, Neiman Marcus, Net-a-Porter, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and Nordstrom.
So what are your thoughts on these Artis oval brushes? They seem to have quickly taken over the beauty world, one beautifully made-up face at a time. Will you be trying them?
