BRUSH WITH GREATNESS

We Talked to Artis About Those $25,000 Diamond-Encrusted Makeup Brushes It Just Launched

Don't worry — there's a ruby version, too.

It's not very often that I write about a beauty product that I'm confident won't be purchased by anyone who reads the article. But today, Artis — the brand that makes those awesome, super-soft makeup brushes that kind of look like giant toothbrushes — launched a $25,000 version of its best-selling, multitasking Elite Oval 7 brush, and I'm pretty sure none of you will be buying it. It's not that I'm assuming you can't afford it — I don't know your bank account, and I wish it the best — but rather, the brand made only three of the brushes it's calling Artis Bespoke, so it may actually be pretty difficult to snag one if you're among those willing to lay down the equivalent of my first post-college salary.

Of the three one-of-a-kind Artis Bespoke brushes, one features a logo design made of white diamonds, one made of black diamonds, and one made of rubies. According to the brand website, "Each artistic brush is adorned with two white gold plates, one that features a mosaic of precious gems, and one that is engravable to be customized with the design or message of the owner’s desire." In addition to an opulent handle, $25,000 will get the buyer a custom luxury brush case, dedicated phone and email support, a special care kit and servicing, an optional insurance policy, and seasonal makeup training with Artis artistry and training lead, Lindsey Jackson (either in-person or via FaceTime).

And, of course, there's also the signature fiber bundle that so many makeup lovers enjoy using to apply foundation, powder, blush, and more — but Artis doesn't actually expect you to use the Bespoke brush to apply makeup. "We know this isn’t your typical makeup brush," Artis general manager Leigh Parrinello Adelman tells Allure. "For our Artis Bespoke limited-edition custom brushes, we have really designed these with the collector in mind — the person who recognizes the beauty in creating a precious expression of art that is singular to them only, who might keep this displayed on their vanity or coffee table as a piece of art, and treasure it for all aspects of its design and artistry." And that's understandable, because who would want to risk getting foundation caked around the gems' settings? Not I.

If you're serious about buying the Artis Bespoke but not quite as serious as whoever might beat you to buying the three existing ones, there's some good news. "These three limited-edition brushes are the launch of a fully customized offering," Adelman tells Allure. "For a customer who loves the idea of creating a truly personal and one-of-a-kind piece of art, we are offering a one-on-one design service. You'd email bespoke@artisbrush.com to start a collaborative design process that is customized completely to the buyer." She says there are no limitations, especially if cost is no object.

If cost is, in fact, an object, Adelman notes that Artis is offering holiday gift sets at a range of price points, and the original Elite Oval 7 Brush is still available for $62, which seemed pretty expensive until a few minutes ago.
